IS Accomplishments

Just a few recent events of note!

-Doctoral candidate Elena Novak has won the Nova Southeastern University Award for Outstanding Practice by a Graduate Student in Instructional Design sponsored by the AECT's Design and Development Division. This award is for the instructional materials created for her dissertation project. Congratulations, Elena! We are all very proud of you!

-Faculty member in the NY Times Magazine! Check out this recent article which mentions Dr. Val Shute's work with assessment for the Quest to Learn School.

10/1 Seminar: Jonathan Adams

This Friday's seminar speaker is Jonathan Adams, and his talk is titled: "Four rules that instructional designers need to know about screen layout."

This presentation will provide an overview of four rules to keep your screen orderly and easy to understand. The focus will be on screen layout and techniques for balancing text and imagery for instructional content.

Jonathan Adams is an associate professor and the former director of the interactive and new communication technologies graduate program in the college of communication at Florida State University. He holds a master's degree in instructional systems University of Massachusetts and doctorate in education with a specialization in educational technology from Boston University. He has designed, developed and programmed more than 80 training/education software products as well as developed Web sites, interactive games and paper-based training materials. He has received more than a dozen industry awards for technical achievement and software design in education and has published more than 20 scholarly articles.

Seminar 9/10: Dr. Roger Kaufman

Come this Friday to STB 3303 from 12-1 to hear Dr. Roger Kaufman present on The 7 Stupid Things People Do When They Do Strategic Planning.

Dr. Kaufman's bio:
Roger Kaufman (CPT, PhD) is Distinguished Research Professor, Sonora Institute of Technology (Mexico), Professor Emeritus, Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems at Florida State University and Director, Roger Kaufman & Associates. He is a past president of ISPI, and has been awarded Member for Life as well as the Thomas F. Gilbert Achievement Award from that organization as well. He has authored 39 books and over 350 articles and is the recipient of ASTD’s Distinguished Contribution to Workplace Learning & Development.
