Lectora Workshop 3/30/18

Dear ISLT Students:

Please mark your calendar: ISSA will facilitate one free workshop to introduce Lectora Online and its basic features. Yao Huang, an ISLT doctoral student, and former Lectora Certified trainer will facilitate the session. By the end of this workshop, you should be able to create an interactive HTML-based eCourse with Lectora Online. This is one of the ISSA development workshop series. Lectora Online is a web-based authoring platform with no need to install on your computer. ISLT still has 10 Lectora Online license good through the end of May 2018.

If you are interested, please send an email to Yao Huang at yh15b@my.fsu.edu to request a free access. Yao will email you the login information.

APATMS (Technology, Mind, and Society) Conference

April 5-7 in Washington D.C.

The APATMS (Technology, Mind, and Society) conference is hosted by APA (American Psychology Association) and ACM (association for computing machinery) and serves as a kind of special interest group meeting specific to the field of artificial intelligence, virtual or mixed reality, and data mining (or learning analytics) issues.

ISLT professor Dr. Fengfeng Ke and ISLT doctoral student Jewoong Moon (Jay) will be presenting on the effect of virtual-reality based social skill training for autistic children. The study was a single-subject design research to review how autistic children behave and their social skills across different types of social settings in VR. Follow updates about this conference using hashtag #APATech18.

Over the last few weeks, a few events have taken place and a few more that are right around the corner that you may be interested in.

Dr. Klein's class using and Press the Chest (a CPR training kit)


Dr. Klein's Advanced Instructional Design and Development class using principles of learning theory, early instructional theory, and communication/media theory to analyze "Press the Chest" (a CPR training kit).

Open Access Publishing Presentation



On Friday, March 2, Florida State Library's scholarly communication librarian, Devin Soper presented in Dr. Dennen's Academic Publishing EME6635 class. A few key points are listed below as well as a link to his presentation.
  • Library expenses are increasing and forcing subscriptions to some journals to be discontinued and or reevaluated while the profits of a publisher have been known to recently exceed the profits of Google

  • If a student wants to publish in an open access journal, check with the FSU library to see if there is a budget set aside for them to help you out
