ISLT Spring Seminar Series Lecture & ISSA Coffee Hour on February 26, 11:30AM-1:30PM

Message 1

Dear ISLT Faculty, Alumni and Students:

On Friday, February 26th from 11:30-12:30ET Cathy Tencza will be our virtual presenter for the second seminar of the year. A group of FSU ISLT students, alumni, and faculty will be gathering in the Morgan Studio to watch this interactive event in person. The title of Cathy's seminar is "Analysis in a Box: How to Leverage A Group's Expertise to Make Strategic Decisions."

If you are planning on joining us in the Morgan Studio for the seminar and the ISSA coffee hour afterwards, please RSVP to Mary Kate (mmckee@campus.fsu.edu). Any local alumni who wish to attend in person will need to secure a parking pass through Mary Kate well in advance of the Friday session.

If you plan on joining us virtually for the session, please click the link below to join the Adobe Connect meeting: http://meet93404893.adobeconnect.com/alisonmoore/

Here is the thought starter question for you to ponder prior to attending the seminar: Think of a time when you had to facilitate a group to identify, discuss, and select a solution to a problem. In the work setting, it might be something like identifying skills and knowledge and instructional approaches for a new program. In your personal life, it might be something like choosing where to have the family reunion. What are some ways that you could help the group make a quick consensus-based decision in a way that everyone felt included and heard?

For those online viewers of the Adobe Connect session - We recommend you access the following link in advance to test your connection and computer: http://meet93404893.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm

Best,
Jonathan Hamilton, for the Spring Seminar Committee

Congratulations! Kesia Milner (ISLT MS Graduate) Chosen as Teacher of the Year for Bay District Schools

Congratulations to Kesia Milner, one of FSU ISLT MS graduates (2014). Kesia was chosen as the 2016 Teacher of the Year for Bay District Schools.
Bay District Schools gives one teacher the award each year. Each school picked one teacher to represent them and more than 34 teachers from all over the county were nominated for this year. Among the five finalists, the award went to Kesia Milner, Springfield Elementary School's art teacher. The ceremony was held at the Edgewater Resort Conference Center on last Tuesday night (Photo).

"They're very, very important for the whole child to be educated and for the child to really be happy and have an outlet, (...) and with all the testing that we have that's mandated, a lot of kids feel a lot of pressure and I feel like the outlet is in the arts," she said at the Teacher of the Year Interview.
